Last week the Senate Commerce, Science, & Transportation Committee scheduled a Markup Session for the Muhammad Ali American Boxing Revival Act on Wednesday, September 16, 2026.
The session is a meeting where a Senate committee or subcommittee debates, amends, and rewrites proposed text before deciding whether to send it to the full Senate.
The news of the Markup session infers that the time is coming close for a vote in the Senate which would effectively pass the bill into law (as the President need only sign off on it). A Senate Hearing in July identified Ted Cruz and Jacky Rosen as the bipartisan sponsors for the bill.
If you recall, the hearing was a spectacle more than anything. Oscar de la Hoya and Nico Ali Walsh testified opposing the bill but were not very persuasive to Cruz and the partisan pro-Ali Act supporters.
Walsh stated on social media that he had talks with TKO officials which seemingly infers that he is leaning toward supporting a bill in some form. We will see what it will look like after Wednesday.
