Strickland’s attention-seeking comments get mainstream scrutiny

February 19, 2026 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

A Sean Strickland press conference rarely gets attention for what he says he will do in the Octagon. Instead the fighter talks the full gamut of politics and his worldview. Wednesday’s press conference may have received extra scrutiny.

Per usual, Strickland went on a rant on a variety of issues including the Super Bowl that occurred a couple weeks ago and the Rouse-Carano matchup later this spring. He also went on a misogynistic rant about women which was noticed by the mainstream media which deserved a writeup by Variety.

The new wrinkle this time around is that its the first time under the Paramount+ banner and Variety is seeking a response from the company. Strickland’s stream of consciousness comments in which he calls Bad Bunny a “f*ggot” and said he used to masturbate to Gina Carano and lauding her for being a conservative are par for the course for Strickland. However, his schtick is being offered to a new audience which seems to be taken aback to it. Of course, Dana White has always protected “free speech” (especially viewpoints he doesn’t mind) so this will be a test of how much power White wields with their new partners.

What this leads to on Saturday is more pressure on Strickland to perform and show that he belongs in the UFC. Another “boring” performance in which he loses will give the UFC a decision on what to do with one of the most polarizing figures on the roster.
