Edgar coming out of retirement for Bare Knuckle Fight

August 21, 2025 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

43-year-old Frankie Edgar is coming out of combat sports retirement to fight in a Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship event in his native New Jersey on October 4th. Edgar will face another former UFC veteran Jimmie Rivera.

The event will take place at the Prudential Center in New Jersey.

Edgar’s last combat sports fight was UFC 281 in November 2022. Notably, it was a KO loss by Chris  Gutierrez in the first round. It was the third straight KO loss from the former lightweight champion.

The news was first reported by Ariel Helwani.

Payout Perspective:

While one might understand the nostalgia behind a comeback. Edgar’s last three losses by KO were bad knockouts. While he has had time to rest his body, its not like you can rest your brain. One need only to look at the mental issues that his contemporary B.J. Penn is going through to realize the potential issues you risk if you continue in combat sports. We have seen the likes of Manny Pacquiao get back into fighting this year, but the long-term issues should be considered. While one might think that this is a one-off, everyone knows that BKFC would get some additional eyes to its event if Edgar started to appear on its cards.
