UFC on Fox 20 drew 2.44 million viewers in overnight ratings per Television By Numbers. Its strong showing helped Fox win the night in network ratings.
Per TV By Numbers it drew a 0.9 rating and 4 share in the adult 18-49 demo. UFC on Fox 20 went up against The Bourne Identity on NBC, 20/20 on ABC and Angel from Hell on CBS. Although The Bourne Identity drew more viewers (2.93M) and 20/20 drew more in the 9-10pm block (2.98M), its strong showing in the adult 18-49 demo won the night for the network.
The event improved on last year’s overnight rating as UFC on Fox 16 drew 2.29M viewers and improved to 2.8M in Live + SD ratings. 2014’s July show on Fox drew 2M viewers and ended up with 2.5M viewers.
The event was headlined by Holly Holm taking on Valentina Shevchenko in a women’s bantamweight matchup.

about average….since FOX 8 most cards have fell in the 2 million to 2.5 million category in overnights the 2 exceptions being FOX 11 and FOX 14.

Even if it was an interesting card it still would’ve done the same numbers.
They have a fan base of about 2m that are going to watch whoever is donning those Reebox trunks.
They could put Jon Jones on there and the numbers probably wouldn’t budge.
Only McGregor and Rousey would be able to make those numbers rise significantly, and honestly they have already lost a lot of their allure.
Boxing seems to be somewhat of the opposite.
They can put Erislandy Lara against some can on ESPN and it does only 500k viewers.
Boxing is an established sport with an established fan base that doesn’t tune in to fights they deem as a slap in the face. But Thurman-Porter averaged 3.1m and peaked at 3.94m on CBS.
Both fighters aren’t name brand stars but they are at the top of their division and people recognized that and tuned in.
Thurman-Porter did peak at almost 4 million with little to no publicity whatsoever.
Boxing fans come across as more evolved. They are immune to hypes and gimmicks and care about quality matches. If they know a fight is going to be boring or a mismatch, they won’t watch it. And yes, the UFC does have a fanbase of about 2 million people, most of them former wrestling fans, hence the fanboyism.
Personally, I think the sooner the UFC fades into obscurity, the better. Then Bellator and WSOF will take over and all the publicity stunts and staged trash talks will be water under the bridge. The UFC has got to be the most overrated thing in sports since soccer. Speaking of soccer, clubs like FC Barcelona are worth 3,8 bn. Does anyone here REALLY think the UFC is worth 4 bn, more than a world famous soccer club?
Good point caramel, boxing fans generally know more about the fighters and who’s stocks are rising etc. MMA is full of fair weathers that only know the top fighters. Back in 09 there was mma clothing everywhere, today there’s barely any.

If you want to compare the 2 the UFC did 2.44 million viewers and 0.9 in the 18-49 demo on overnights and the Thurman/Porter card did 2.12 million viewers and 0.5 in the 18-49 demo on overnights.
Also anybody here is welcome to hate the UFC and I’m not gonna tell you not to but if you guys are really expecting Bellator and WSOF to all of a sudden take over, you’re gonna be disappointed.
Not trying to hate but WSOF gets about 200k viewers per event and Bellator is gonna have a hard time breaking 1 million now without Kimbo.
And you’re expecting the publicity stunts and staged trash talks to go away, have you even watched Bellator under Coker? Did you not see the “masked man” angle with Ortiz/Bonnar or “baby nuts” with Kimbo/Dada 5000.
If the UFC fades as a promotion, mma will for the most part as well in the USA. The UFC really IS mma now. Im sure the numbers will be closer to 3m for this show when they are all added up. Boxing is star/good matchup driven that is true, UFC is brand driven. people tune in to watch the sport, while in boxing…boxing fans tune in to watch what they deem as quality. I chalk that up to boxing having a more mature audience though. no one can dispute that young suburban white kids make up the bulk of ufc fan base, and its not like they have families to take care of, jobs to go to, mortgages to pay, etc etc
