Ortiz files motion to confirm injunction over

March 12, 2026 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

Despite a court order which moved his case to arbitration, Vergil Ortiz seeks to confirm that the Golden Boy injunction is over. The move is an attempt to sign the Ortiz-Jaron Ennis fight despite the Golden Boy arbitration.

A hearing was held on February 20, 2026, regarding Golden Boy’s request for a TRO and preliminary injunction. The Court noted that the Temporary Injunction would dissolve on February 27, 2026.

According to Ortiz’s lawyer declaration, Eddie Hearn, Ennis’ promoter, was still interested in a fight between the two. Hearn cautioned that if the fight could not be done, there were other fighters he was looking at for Ennis.

The purpose of the motion is “made on the grounds that although the TRO is written to be open-ended, Rule 65 provides that the TRO expired, by operation of law, fourteen days after issuance. However Ortiz brings this Motion to ensure that any action he may take does not violate the TRO, or other order of this Court.”

Payout Perspective:

The reason for the motion is to ensure that Golden Boy does not try to block Ortiz’s attempts to sign a fight between Ortiz and Ennis. Of course, Golden Boy will respond to oppose this motion which seems overkill but Ortiz’s lawyers want clarification on the issue. It would seem to me that an arbitrator would have to decide the issue of the breach of the contract and despite the lifting of the TRO, Ortiz probably would be prevented from signing a deal with Matchroom Boxing to fight Ennis but we shall see.
