UFC on Fox 16 draws 2.8M viewers per Live+SD ratings

July 28, 2015

UFC on Fox 16 drew an official live + SD rating of 2.8 million viewers factoring in the complete event which aired from 8-10:30PM ET.  In addition, the prelims which preceded the main card on Fox drew 1.3M viewers.

The ratings were released via Fox Sports press release.  The numbers show a bump based on the fast overnights of 2.29M viewers which did not account for the last 30 minutes of the event.  The peak of the main card was 3.8 million viewers.

UFC on Fox 16 Ratings updated

In comparison to last July’s UFC on Fox event, this year’s card featuring T.J. Dillashaw defending his bantamweight title against Renan Barao did better than UFC on Fox 12 which drew 2.5 million viewers peaking at 3.4 million.  Last July featured Matt Brown taking on Robbie Lawler.

UFC on Fox Ratings
Overnights Live + SD
UFC on Fox 1 5,700,000
UFC on Fox 2 4,570,000
UFC on Fox 3 2,250,000 2,400,000
UFC on Fox 4 2,360,000 2,400,000
UFC on Fox 5 3,410,000 4,400,000
UFC on Fox 6 3,770,000 4,220,000
UFC on Fox 7 3,300,000 3,700,000
UFC on Fox 8 2,040,000 2,380,000
UFC on Fox 9 2,410,000 2,800,000
UFC on Fox 10 2,550,000 3,220,000
UFC on Fox 11 1,990,000 2,500,000
UFC on Fox 12 2,020,000 2,500,000
UFC on Fox 13 2,270,000 2,800,000
UFC on Fox 14 2,820,000 3,049,000
UFC on Fox 15 2,430,000 2,745,000
UFC on Fox 16 2,290,000 2,800,000

The chart and graph have been revamped to include the “fast overnights” versus the Live + same day (SD) rating.  The overnights do not account for any overruns.  The live plus same day rating includes any viewership that may have occurred that day and not just live viewing.

Note that UFC on Fox 1 and 2 we do not have the “fast overnights,” just the Live +SD rating.

Payout Perspective:

The bump in viewership is a nice increase from the original overnight viewership in comparison to the last couple network events.  Its peak viewership of 3.8M viewers is the best peak for a UFC on Fox event since UFC on Fox 13 drew 3.8M viewers.  The prelims matches the viewership number on Fox for UFC on Fox 12.  The only other time the prelims were also on Fox, UFC on Fox 15 drew 1.4 million viewers.

Let’s hear the retarded boxing trolls try to spin this. Dillashaw-Barao was the best rated Summer UFC on FOX show thus far.

  2. jjjjjj_ffffff on July 28th, 2015 8:01 PM

To put the 2.8M number into perspective, WWE is in panic mode b/c WWE Raw’s ratings are averaging less than 4M viewers on a weekly basis on cable tv.

Reruns of Family Guy on TBS at 11pm are averaging 3+M viewers. Family Guy on Fox was doing 5-7M viewers..

    No one watches MMA.

  3. Pink Pig on July 28th, 2015 8:06 PM

    Horrible numbers

  4. d on July 28th, 2015 8:48 PM

To put in better prospective, WWE doesn’t make a fraction of the ppv revenue that the UFC does, even factoring in their subscription base money. Not to mention of course, RAW is on Monday night which is a much better night for tv than Saturday. You also just lied about the Family Guy numbers.

Sampson, do you think you are fooling anyone with your Pink Pig and jjjjjj_ffffff aliases?

    Pathetic.

  5. saldathief on July 28th, 2015 9:39 PM

what a waste of an article! how bout spare us the double article on the same event with a few thousand difference like anyone give a flying fucK 2.20 to 2.8 really??? whats this live sd bullshit? lets stop touching ourselves!!!

  6. Combo on July 28th, 2015 10:13 PM

A nice jump from the preliminary number with an impressive 3.8 million peak. Fox must be pleased.

  7. George Gonzales on July 29th, 2015 4:08 AM

Wow, awesome numbers. I wonder if the bump up has anything to do with the success of 189 and I wonder if the success will spill over into 190?

  8. Combo on July 29th, 2015 4:32 AM

Good question about 189’s influence. 189 was what “The Fight of the Century”, with all its viewers, hoped to be. Instead, it was widely panned and didn’t do much to set up any future potential fights, a la Aldo-McGregor.

But to be fair, TJ-Barao rematch was a big match-up. So many great fights lately!

  9. BrainSmasher on July 29th, 2015 8:54 AM

Only boxing Idiots would try to compare WWE to UFC ratings. WWE is scripted. That allows them to use their biggest stars every single week. The UFC just ran an event with their 50th most popular fighter at the headliner. It would be like the WWE running Monday Night Raw with it’s biggest name being the Brooklyn Brawler. They wouldn’t do shit for ratings. Instead they get to march out the Rock, Cena, and all their starts to atleast speak even if they are not wrestling that night. Only an idiot would try to compare their ratings. The fact they use their stars every week is why their PPV sales declined so rapidly.

  10. BrainSmasher on July 29th, 2015 9:00 AM

Good point guys about 189 endluencs. The UFC has always been able to take advantage of its mainstream success. It wouldn’t be out of the question that the few hundred thousand viewer jump was due to increased interest from those who bought 189. Ironically Boxings PBC is getting poor ratings after the Fight of the century. Which means the fight was so bad that it didn’t get any viewers on PBC events. Or PBC numbers are getting help from that big fight and will actually drop off to even worse ratings soon. Either the fight of the century hurt boxing or PBC is doing worse than once thought. Either way it’s not good for boxing. If that boxing PPV was any good it should have give boxing a shot in the arm for the next year or two. Instead it showed everything that was wrong with boxing.

  11. The Greatest on July 29th, 2015 9:05 AM

Funny that Canelo did 2.3mil viewers on HBO one week after Mayweather-Pacquiao, but May-Pac ruined PBC?
    Morons

  12. Diego on July 29th, 2015 9:08 AM

These are solid numbers. These are the kinds of results you need to run a sustainable business modeled on creating synergies between TV and PPV offerings. It’s not record breaking, but it doesn’t have to be. It just has to be profitable. And I highly suspect this was a profitable night for the UFC.

  13. The Greatest on July 29th, 2015 9:09 AM

PBCs ratings will go up when the match ups get better.
If Mayweather-Berto is on CBS then u can expect that to easily be the most watched fight of the year.

By the way can anyone name what was the most watched combat sporting event on FOX ever?

  14. d on July 29th, 2015 9:34 AM

    Haha. The Gayest!

PBC’s ratings will never get better. Every time you make a ratings prediction expecting it to do great- it bombs. Their ratings are horrible compared to what they are putting into it. They need to literally double their ratings to sustain this business model and there is no reason at all to see any improvement. They’ve been in business for 4 months now, they’ve probably already burned through over 100m. This thing is a disaster.

Mayweather-Berto is most likely headed to ppv. Most sources are pointing this out. It will bomb royally too. I’m saying no more than 700k buys.

  15. FightBusiness on July 29th, 2015 10:52 AM

there is no trolling. these are good numbers. i’ve never been a hater just a realist. bad is bad and these numbers are good. the only hater is D.Mr. Pac vs mayweather wont do over 3 million and Mayweather wont make more than 120 million. own your past shoddy assesments

  16. FightBusiness on July 29th, 2015 11:20 AM

ufc 189 did 950k buys. with aldo in it would have done 1.3 million. average numbers given all the hype.

  17. d on July 29th, 2015 9:14 PM

Fagbusiness in full spin mode. 950k to 1.3m are average numbers???? Do you have any fucking clue how much money Mayweather and Pacquaio put into their fights in terms of promotion? Tens of millions. Most of you idiots have no clue what the margins are. You just read Ellerbe or Arum talk about how much money the event made, meanwhile, half the time they are breaking even at best. Doing 950k(if this is an accurate figure), with a replacement 145lb interim title fight is amazing.

The fight with Aldo is also going to do 2m buys- it will be by far the biggest fight in UFC history and will usher in a new era of not only the UFC having the most buys/revenue per year, but now, they are going to have the biggest individual event too. The future is bleak for boxing at this point it is a very bad investment.

You are the epitome of a troll. You are a boxing fan who is jealous of mma’s success and you come on here to troll- nothing more. You fabricate and cherry pick stats, act like an idiot and desperately defend boxing with your weak, delusional arguments.

You lied about me saying Pac-May won’t do over 3m and Mayweather didn’t make 120m. You are too stupid of an idiot to realize the money isn’t there for him to make that kind of money. You take the word of promoters in boxing, but then when White says something you call him a liar. You are a hypocritical moron. So get ready for your new name when the UFC hits 5m. I need about 900k from 5 ppvs. That is an average of less than 200k per event. Good luck with that. Hahaha. FAGBUSINESS!

  19. d on July 29th, 2015 9:24 PM

The UFC has done 4.025m ppv buys thus far with 5 ppvs left according to the Blue Book.

It doesn’t matter where FMJ fights. The fans will be disappointed like they always are with his fights. Not only with Connor vs Aldo be huge and set records. It is gaurenteed to be an exciting fight. Those reasons alone is why the UFC is destined to replace boxing for EVER!

—Disappointed, yet they turn out in records numbers? How many UFC ppvs have sold over 2m? None, Zero, and ill add in another word. Never.
Mayweather has 3 ppvs himself sell over 2m.
Shit, he even has one that’s sold over 4m.
Conor-Aldo isn’t going to set records and nothing is guaranteed in anything unless W.SIlva is telling the truth.

MMA can never replace boxing for the simple reason that MMA is only a fraction of the empire that boxing is.
MMA doesn’t have an established amateur system. It doesn’t have world recognition. New York doesn’t even allow it, where do you think boxing is gonna go?
MMA is popular to White suburban Americas and Brazilians. That’s it. You have no foothold in Europe or Asia and nothing in Latin America. All the MMA places in Asia fizzled out like the UFC is doing, because its generic and becomes boring.
Its fast food, while boxing is a gourmet meal.

Boxings a an 18 hole golf course while MMA is putt putt.

Its funny how you think people are just gonna walk away from boxing and go to MMA because “they can kick mannnnnnnnnnn”.
Its idiotic. Boxings too globally popular for that to happen.
For fucks sake its still bigger than MMA here and every country in the world.
    4.4mil proves it.

You rant incoherently and throw facts out the window. Boxing promotions wish they made the margins the UFC does. Costs so much more to promote boxing than UFC.

Why don’t you show how they made 1/2b in gross. Show me the bullshit numbers you retard.

Even based on that delusional promoter’s number of 4.4m buys, the promotion still only brought in around 170-180m in gross from the ppv. The gate was 74m. Where is the other 250m? Int’l contracts? Site Fees? Sponsorship? Most likely it is up your ass, you delusional idiot.

You just throw out these insane, fabricated numbers.

  24. d on July 30th, 2015 5:13 AM

“–Jesus that’s it? Still haven’t touched Mayweather-Pacquiao yet. HAHAHAH.
    oopss”

According to boxing promoters that don’t release their ppv numbers publicly. Also, boxing next year will probably do less than 3m ppv buys. They are going to have a total collapse of their ppv market because of Mayweather-Pacquaio being done, plus all of the lawsuits, promotions/PBC fighting with each other.

“—Disappointed, yet they turn out in records numbers? How many UFC ppvs have sold over 2m? None, Zero, and ill add in another word. Never.

Yeah, he is good at bullshitting casuals.

The Aldo-McGregor fight will do 2m buys- guaranteed.

Mayweather only sold 2ppvs as the A that went over 2m buys, and the one that went over 3m involved the only other boxing ppv star over the past 7 years- Pacqauio. If you gave McGregor someone on the level of Pacqauio in terms of drawing power, than it is possible he could hit over 3m if they had it at UFC 200 at all the stars aligned. Keep in mind, part of the reason those fight numbers are so big, is because those promotions only do 2 ppvs at most per year and put tens of millions of dollars into promoting them. If the UFC concentrated all of their money into promoting 2-3 ppvs per year, they would be doing those numbers easily.

The rest of your rant is beyond delusional. Especially the part that boxing is bigger domestically and everywhere abroad- where a boxing league with a 500m dollar hedge fund backing them has to pay for time on network tv, while the UFC has a contract with a network already plus generates more ppv revenue nearly every year. Plus has major tv contracts in a number of countries that boxing does not.

    Go yell at padded walls.

4.4m ppv buys, with so many people trying to buy it that the systems got overloaded and shut down.
Do u not remember that the fight got delayed so that they could give ppl time. Meaning the number shouldve been higher.
    400-600m in revenue.
Add the 74m gate with the millions upon millions upon millions that the sponsors gave them.
Tecate paid 5.6m to outbid Corona.
A tv network in The Philippines paid 10m to show the fight.
    Internationally records were broken everywhere.
    4.4mil ppvs at $90-$100 a pop.

    You are a retard.

  28. d on July 30th, 2015 4:46 PM

    “400-600m in revenue.”

Prove it you fucking idiot. You can’t because it isn’t real. I added the 74m to the exaggerated estimated ppv revenue you stupid shit. It only adds up to roughly 250m, now you are saying 400m. Where is the other 150-350m. Int’l contracts, sponsorships, site fees DO NOT make up that kind of money you fucking enormous idiot!

Stop listening to boxing promoters. What they do is include the revenue that the cable companies take in ppv revenue. This fight may have grossed at most 300m which doesn’t even include overhead and HBO/Showtime/Arum/Haymon’s cut.

  29. LeonThePro on July 30th, 2015 6:05 PM

It ain’t over till it’s over Delusional .. Once again you pollute every thread with your propaganda.

Has anyone noticed how D has the most posts on every single thread on Mmapayout? Would love to see his post stats so Delusional can come out of the closet as a paid UFC blogger. Not to mention all the other posts he has on forums, it’s mind boggling. Yahhhoooooo!

Wow I wonder how much the UFC spent to get those buys? I wonder how many they bought on their own just for publicity sake? Kinda weird how they “advertised ppv buy rate” as per Mmapayout article. Shit if they’re paying USA Today for news coverage may as well boost your ppv sales, right? Not one bar, theater, or person I knew was buying 189. 825k prelims lol? Lots of red flags.

Rest of the year looks bleak- we’ll see Delusional.

  30. d on July 30th, 2015 6:56 PM

HAHAHAHAHA!!! LEON RETURNS!! This shameful pathetic retard has been owned on nearly every single prediction he’s made yet he comes back for more. Fucking idiot!

He’s already attempting to spin it with conspiracy theories claiming the UFC bought ppv buys. HAHAHA!! The last attempt from a pathetic, desperate, little man.

The rest of the year looks bleak? It wouldn’t matter if the rest of the year was their lowest 5 ppvs in 8 years, they still will hit 5m. That’s less than 200k per event and we have Rousey coming up Saturday which is a basic guaranteed 300k. Then Weidman-Rockhold which should hit around 500k in December with Lawler-Condit on the undercard. Gus-Cormier. Plus you got bailed out with Jones doing something stupid and Aldo-McGregor going down on Jan 2nd, rather than December because of the booking issue. You’re fucked anyway and you know it. You were dead wrong on another prediction because you are such an idiot and ran your mouth again. If you weren’t such an arrogant schmuck, you wouldn’t be in this situation where you have to eat crow over and over again, and then change your name. What’s funny is you were the one so desperate to bet to begin with- this should teach you a lesson on running your mouth when you don’t know what the hell you are talking about.

Actually, I definitely don’t have the most posts- go check out whatever IP Sampson is using, he’s got like 10 aliases. I’m just one of the few people on here who only uses 1 user name. I actually rarely used to post until this place turned into a troll convention with morons like you. I find it amusing to fuck with you tards.

Hahahaha. Leon’s now studying my posts and lying and exaggerating. I guess that’s what you have to do when you get proven dead wrong every fucking time you comment on here. Pathetic. Its funny that you claim this forum needs moderation when you’ve been trolling on here for a long time. I finally shut you the fuck up for the most part- you used to troll all the time but I guess you are a little embarrassed now, because of me owning you for the 100th time.

    This is the best though:

“Its almost complete insanity, your dedication in trying to defend a point that is so utterly wrong.”

Haha. You have just hit the ranks of Sal in terms of delusional. I’ve proven you literally wrong with nearly every statement you’ve made about the UFC in terms of ppv and popularity. You were dead fucking wrong about your injury and overall ppv buys analysis. If you had any integrity what so ever, you would just have shut your mouth and ran away, but it is driving you crazy that you had to eat crow. HAHAHAHA!!!!!

“D you claimed the UFC was going to outsell boxing this year in ppvs.

More desperation. Hahaha. Now you are attempting to try to find any way to save face by finding some possible way to one up me. Even if it they don’t outdraw boxing- which isn’t set in stone(there are still rumblings actually that the Aldo fight could go down in December which would allow the UFC to surpass boxing in buys)- you weren’t defending this argument you retard. Your point was that the UFC’s ppv was shot. 2014 numbers were going to repeat themselves, and the injuries would be the same as 2014 which DID NOT HAPPEN!!! You also predicted the UFC would not develop any more big ppv stars-we are now seeing arguably the biggest star they’ve ever had with McGregor. As I predicted, the UFC’s ppv is back to 2012-2013 numbers and they have the biggest 2 fights ever lined up for next year: Aldo-McGregor and UFC 200.

You pathetic idiot, you got worked so bad and had you just shut your mouth like most idiots that don’t know shit about the subject being discussed, you wouldn’t have to eat crow. 5m+ ppv buys LEON THE SCHMO COMING 2016!!!!!

Most rational people know how to express themselves without the melodrama, drivel, and excessive copy in chat forums.

Delusional who are you talking to, LOLs? Off the deep end here with your rant:

“D you claimed the UFC was going to outsell boxing this year in ppvs.

“More desperation. Hahaha. Now you are attempting to try to find any way to save face by finding some possible way to one up me. … defending this argument you retard. Your point was that the UFC’s ppv was shot.” – DELUSIONAL rant, 2015

…. Funny how you are ranting at a quote made by THE GREATEST over a year go and misdirecting it at me LOL! Anything for a few pennies per character, YES?

Still lots of chances for UFC to mess up; with their luck one may still get canned. It ain’t over till its over!

  36. d on July 31st, 2015 2:31 PM

HAHAHAHAHAHA!! More lies and delusions from the Leon the Schmo.

” I miss-predicted 2 or 3 PPVs and you hold me to it; yet you have done the same.”

This is the very definition of delusional. You made predictions on 6 ufc ppvs this year, 4 of them were completely wrong. I have made the same amount of predictions and only 1 was completely wrong. You are so delusional it is unreal. Goes to show you have zero integrity.

“D you can start a honorary blog with your 1000 word + posts – but do you get paid for every character? Most rational people know how to express themselves without the melodrama, drivel, and excessive copy in chat forums.”

You should take your own advice.

Are you this retarded, that you can’t see why I responded to the quote you sourced you stupid fuck? You were using that as an argument or else, you would have abbreviated the quote. Like I said, a purely desperate man who knows he was proven dead fucking wrong over and over again.

Leon pathetically going down with the ship, never admitting he is a moron and like the retard despite the writing on the wall that he was dead wrong. He said that 2014 ppv numbers would continue, yet we are in July of 2015 and they have already surpassed 2014’s numbers this year. He said the injury rate would be the same, and it was proven that did not happen this year. He said 2015 wouldn’t get 5m buys, yet with 5ppvs left they need less than a million to hit that mark with a Rousey and Weidman fight on the schedule left. He made predictions that were wrong on nearly every individual ppv this year, yet continues to deny it because he is a brain dead delusional idiot. He has no shame which is why he keeps ranting on and denying things that he said despite the evidence from his comments. Most people would just walk away from the argument when they realized they were dead wrong and look like an idiot, but that clearly doesn’t stop Leon The Schmo. Proof is in the pudding, once again Delusional has a near 500 word post to pay his blogging fees… yes I’m aware I’m egging on his per/character salary.

I made 2/6 predictions this year? And you made 5/6 of the exact same? D for Delusional.

No your wrong about your assumptions as usual, you read/rant into things too much. How many headliners have been changed, fuck an injury, your twisting things around.

Fake rib injury, coke, rape, pregnancy, alien invasions, who gives a fuck – UFC headliners change partners more than D’s Mom. Delusional stop being an asshole and trying to milk it to “save face.”

Yeah, proof is in the pudding, you were proven wrong you dumb shit.

Yes, you were 2/6. I was only clearly wrong on ufc 187. We have quotes- don’t make me get them out you fucking idiot.

“No your wrong about your assumptions as usual, you read/rant into things too much. How many headliners have been changed, fuck an injury, your twisting things around.”

Hahaha. Here come the lies. Your original argument was that the INJURIES were the issue. The beauty of this website is you can’t delete any of your past comments. Now you are lying you pathetic idiot. Where are the injuries from ’14, they don’t exist, you must be confusing your mom’s anal reconstructive surgery from all the dicks that stretched her fat asshole out.

Saving face is something you can’t possibly do at this point because of how dead wrong you were proven to be. Of course, you will continue to attempt to save face, not realizing that you are just digging your level of shame deeper.
