Jones-Cormier headlines UFC 200

April 27, 2016 by Jason Cruz 15 Comments

The UFC announced on ABC’s Good Morning America that Jon Jones will take on Daniel Cormier in the main event of UFC 200 on July 9 in Las Vegas.  The fight will be to unify the light heavyweight championship.

Jones defeated Ovince St. Preux last Saturday to earn the interim belt as Cormier pulled out of the bout due to an injury.  The new main event takes the place of Conor McGregor-Nate Diaz as the UFC 200 main bout.

Despite legal issues, the UFC is turning to Jones (and Cormier) to sell this event.

Payout Perspective:

The new main event is better than the potential for Aldo-Edgar as the top fight of the biggest card of the year (thus far) for the company.  The announcement on GMA appealed to the mainstream and occurs on the same day that tickets become available to the public (Wednesday are for UFC fan members).  Expect revved up promotion for UFC 200 which would rival and probably exceed what was done for UFC 182.

Another 1m plus buy ppv for the UFC- they will likely have 4 this year and the only 4 in combat sports. Big ppv’s big money! MMA is on fire!!

There you guys go again cherry picking statistics.

You neglect to acknowledge they’ve had 3 ppvs in the past 5 months that hit 1m buys.

With 3 more to come this year. Let me know when boxing hits 6 one million buy ppvs in a calendar year. Or even more than 3 or 4.

    Between May 3rd 2014-May 3rd 2015 boxing did 8.38M ppvs from 6 ppvs
The UFC did 5.05M in the same time period off 13 ppvs.

    Sit down

    Hahahahahhahahaha.

He exaggerates the number and then uses Mayweather-Pacquaio to justify his argument. What a fool Hahaha. You straight up lied about 8m plus buys, they were no where near that. Just fabricating things out of thin air again? Hahahaha.

Since September of 2013, boxing has produced 1… just ONE ppv that hit 1m plus buys. Talk about laying a giant turd. Hahahahahaha. UFC will have 6 in a calendar year.

It’s never a ppv when it’s from another country Einstein. Been like that for years. They get our ppvs and we get theirs.

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

Don’t you at least bother to google this stuff?

Mayweather vs. Hatton…..US/Canada ppv, UK Skytv ppv.

Tyson vs. Douglas……US/Canada ppv live from Japan.

Pacquaio vs. Rios….US/Canada ppv live from Macau

    And a number more.

They have a US/Canada ppv when the fight can sell in the US/Canada. When their is limited interest here, they do not distribute it through ppv.

How are all of those German ppv buys doing for Klitschko fights domestically?
