MMA Junkie reports the attendance, gate and bonuses from UFC on Fox 15.
The event drew 13,306 fans for a gate of $1.2 million at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. The last time the UFC visited Newark for UFC 159 (Jones-Sonnen) it drew 15, 227 fans for a gate of $2.7 million. In comparison, last April’s UFC on Fox 11 from Orlando, Florida drew 17,000 fans for a gate of $1.55 million. Numbers via MMA Payout Blue Book.
In addition, the bonuses announced last night went to Luke Rockhold, Max Holloway, Gian Villante and Corey Anderson. Each scored an extra $50,000 for their performances. Villante-Anderson won Fight of the Night in which Villante won via TKO stoppage.
Payout Perspective:
It was an entertaining night of fights with the main card offering some good performances. Although she did not win a bonus, Paige Van Zant impressed with two judges scoring 10-8 rounds in her favor. Max Holloway and Luke Rockhold also earned impressive victories with their dominating wins.
UFC 169 was the last event in Newark Barao vs Faber II it did 14308k with a gate of $1.6 million, average price was $115. UFC on fox 15 was one of the lowest gates ever for the ufc at newark with average price at about $90.
Yeah, that low and they STILL made more money than the PBC shows. Makes you wonder exactly how many millions these PBC shows are losing because it is a ton.

They should have stacked the card with Edgar Faber and sold it out so the people from NYS wouldn’t see empty seats. and not have had some stupid wmma fight that most normal people thinks is barbaric. A missed opportunity once again by the UFC.

Sal, you can try to rationalize the gate numbers, but the truth remains, even the boxing promoter’s inflated numbers, don’t match this UFC gate. Boxing gates don’t generate shit unless they are the top 2 or 3 fighters. UFC is much different. They can do solid gate numbers with tons of fighters.
Gates vary in boxing, even top fighters have shit gates. I have been at plenty of fights that were half empty. The boxing model is very different from the UFC/MMA model. There are many many boxing promoters that have been around for decades who have fights and make money. There is really only one mma promoter at a high level, dozens have folded and more fold every day.
And by vary you mean they suck shit outside of the top 2 or 3 boxers. The UFC can do a million dollar gate with weak headliners. PBC couldn’t even do a million dollars with stars. It isn’t comparable. Boxing lives and dies off of domestic and global tv right fees, not the gates, because if they had to, they would nearly all fold. The only ones who could survive would be the ones promoting and co promoting Mayweather, Pac, etc.
Boxing promotions don’t make a fraction of what the UFC does. It isn’t even close. The split between the fighters in boxing, is at least 50% of the profits, in the UFC as you guys love to point out, it is considerably lower, closer to 30-35%. Not to mention big named boxers co promoter their events which leaves even smaller margins for the banner promotion.
The only reason why those other promotions are folding is because the UFC has a stranglehold on the marketplace, unlike boxing promotions.
By the way Sal, the gates for both PBCs on NBC were smaller than the Rockhold vs. Machida gate. This is a fact.
