UFC announces Rousey to defend title in Brazil

March 20, 2015 by Jason Cruz 29 Comments

The UFC announced that Ronda Rousey will face Bethe Corriea on August 1st in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil at the HSBC Arena.  Rousey’s next fight, which should headline UFC 190, will be the first outside North America for the bantamweight champion.

The HSBC Arena has been the venue for UFC 142 (Aldo-Mendes, $2.8M gate, 10,605 in attendance), UFC 153 (Silva-Bonnar, $2.55M gate, 16,844 in attendance) and UFC 163 (Aldo-Korean Zombie, $1.5M gate, 13,873 in attendance).

UFC 190 should do well based on Rousey’s popularity at the moment.  Rousey had been rumored to fight on a PPV card in Melbourne, Australia in November.

Corriea is undefeated (9-0) and has beaten two of Rousey’s stablemates (Shayna Baszler and Jessamyn Duke).

Payout Perspective:

I was a little surprised with this announcement.  Despite Rousey’s appeal, one would think that this fight give the challenger a “home” advantage.  Of course, in an effort to extend its global reach, having Rousey defend her title in Brazil would be good for business.  With the UFC not having luck with its August PPVs (recall last year’s was cancelled), UFC 190 should turn that trend around.

UFC 185 did over 300k buys. Even the low profile ppvs are back to 2013 standards.

UFC ppv buys this year thus far…2.3m.

Leon, haven’t heard from you in a while. Where you at? By April with 8 ppvs left, we will be over half way there. At this point you need a miracle.

Hey D been busy traveling and working; so not as much time to post on the internet as someone such as yourself. Last week I was in Kazakhstan where I met with your mother. The whole time she was screaming U.. F… Me … U … F… Me! What does that mean?

Are the “official” Dave Meltzer numbers released yet? Don’t get your hopes up, it’s still early. Plenty of time for the UFC to fuck up; we’ll see.

HAHAHAHAHA!!! LEON, you must be getting yourself ready for that humiliating defeat and excuse making. We see it already with you challenging Meltzer’s numbers, yet you already claimed you were good with what is reported in the blue book. HAHAHAHAHA!! Yeah, I’m sure you’ve been working and been busy, you used to post non stop until you realized your argument was completely destroyed and you are a fucking colossal moron.

Haha. Mom jokes. Very 90s. The reality is you realized you are a fucking idiot and you are about to eat the worst load of crow I’ve seen in quite some time.

Don’t get my hopes up?? More like, you better pray for a miracle:

2.3m buys with 8ppvs left including-

    McGregor-Aldo/MacDonald-Lawler

    Jones-Johnson/Weidman-Belfort

    MSG in December

….You’re fucked. You would need cancellations across the board. All I need is an average of around 300k per event at this point.

D i think your not seeing that boxing is taking over TV and dropping the ppv part unless its a major event.
UFCs ppv buyrate isnt as great as your making it out to be, but regardless its going to slow down especially that you have alot of 300k or lower duds on the horizon.
UFC 186? Dillashaw vs Barao II? First one did 215k. This one will probably do 150k.
    No ones buying that shit.
UFC 190 Rouseys next fight is against someone no one gives a shit about.
UFC 188 Cain vs Werdum will be around 300k-350k
UFC 187 has potential too be around 600-700k, but this is weeks after Mayweather-Pacquiao and I recall Dana White blaming Mayweather vs Canelo as the reason UFC ppvs were slipping. So assuming Mayweather wins and an immediate rematch is set for September, ppl might be skipping spending money on UFC and get ready for next fight.

But boxing has potential to outsell 13 UFC ppvs with just two boxing ppvs

    THE GAYEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Gayest, I think YOU ARE not comprehending that boxing promoters attempted to have more ppvs last year and it failed miserably where they literally had more buys the previous 2 years when they only had 4 ppvs as opposed to the 7 they had last year.

“UFC 186? Dillashaw vs Barao II? First one did 215k. This one will probably do 150k.
    No ones buying that shit.”

This will make your predictions 0 for 5 this year. This ppv will do more than the first one did. Probably not by much. This is the lowest profiled scheduled ppv of the year.

Cain vs. Werdum will be over 400k buys.

UFC 187 has the potential to do over a million buys.

UFC 189 will be big as well.

MSG in December with Jones/Weidman again, gonna be real big.

Boxing has 1 fight left, with their two about to retire stars. Enjoy the May snoozefest. That will be boxing’s last big hurrah.

You have no shame with your lies. You are beyond delusional. Every prediction you made so far this year was wrong. You are a complete moron.

    Boxing ppvs failed last year?
They outsold the UFC last year with less ppvs, ass clown
And is this MSG in December even happening?
Havent heard that yet except from you but this could be another one of your little fairy tales.
    What happens if Jones loses?
Last month you were talkin about a Pettis superfight.

HAHAHA!!! The expansion of boxing ppvs failed big time. Their numbers were way down due to expansion. You see how it works, retard? Once they expand the number of ppvs, the average event goes WAY down. Think about it tard- in 2012 and 2013 they did 4 ppvs and in both years they did more in buys in those two years individually than they did in 2014 when they expanded to 7. Do the math idiot.

The only reason they outsold the UFC last year is because nearly every headlining fighter was injured and their 2 biggest stars didn’t fight/retired. Just wait until Mayweather/Pacquaio retire and see what happens to boxing ppvs. That is why Haymon desperately attempted to get back on network tv- which also failed miserably.

“And is this MSG in December even happening?
Havent heard that yet except from you but this could be another one of your little fairy tales.”

That is because you are an idiot who can’t read. White already set a date dummy.

    http://www.mmafighting.com/2015/3/7/8165719/dana-white-ufc-holding-date-for-event-at-madison-square-garden-in

If Jones loses, he will still fight at MSG for the title in a rematch against Johnson idiot.

Last month I was talking about how big the McGregor-Aldo fight will be and how it is bigger than a Pettis-Aldo fight would be.

You are wrong every time you make a statement idiot.

How did boxing fail? They outsold the UFC, so the UFC mustve been failing.

D, you say this is boxings last hurrah and wait til Mayweather and Pacquiao retire. You’re the same idiot 8 years ago saying wait til De La Hoya retires.
You’re the same idiot who said wait til Dempsey retires, wait til Sugar Ray retires, wait til Ali retires, wait til Leonard retires, wait til Tyson retires

The GAYEST you are retarded and just make shit up. They didn’t outsell the ufc in 7 of the last 8 years. The only reason again it happened last year was because of the injuries moron.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! Hey fucking idiot- the blue book gets their numbers from….wait for it… DAVE MELTZER YOU STUPID SHIT!!! They didn’t update the info yet. Nice pathetic attempt to save some sort of dignity when you know you are fucked you idiot.

“Compiled from reports in Dave Meltzer’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter:”

Right at the top of the blue book you fucking idiot!!! HAHAHAHA!!!

Also, no one wants to read your bullshit along with the other trolls on here who by the way are the same people over and over again using different aliases, you are probably one of them. They post just as much as me. You would post non stop until you realized you were going to lose this bet badly and then disappeared. Now you are already coming up with excuses and attempting to play any angle you can claiming the numbers aren’t accurate when in reality, every number I gave that made up those estimated 2.3m buys were directly from Dave Meltzer. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Leon the Schmo gets humiliated once again!! What a dumb fuck!!

You need to stop arguing with everyone about the same thing and get off Yahoo and however many forums your on and get some sunshine. Yes it exists. There is a very real chance some major fuckups till now till the end of the year and you know it. Now shut up and go back to Yahoo for a bit.

Apparently you don’t you fucking idiot because you just challenged Meltzer’s numbers. Holy shit you are an idiot who is completely shameless. When someone exposes you for the moron you are like I’ve done countless times, you pathetically try to spin it, regardless of how clearly you are dead wrong.

You need to realize how much of a total hypocrite you are who is doing exactly what I’m doing on here. Only difference is, I actually do get sunshine, you most likely never leave your fag father’s basement. You should also stop stalking people from Yahoo to mmapayout. You really have some issues like the Gayest.

Even with major fuckups, you are still fucked. Even as bad as everything got last year with every headliner being scrapped, they still did close to what I’ll need left. All I need is one of those two big fights coming up in May or July going through and you’re fucked. This bet will most likely be over by October. Better get ready for that nickname faggot.
