UFC on FX 8: 1.3 million viewer average

May 22, 2013 by Jason Cruz 15 Comments

MMA Fighting reports ratings for UFC on FX 8 were down from last event’s high as Saturday’s event from Brazil scored 1.3 million viewers.  The 1.3M figure is on average with ratings for UFC on FX shows.

Saturday’s main event on FX saw Vitor Belfort KO Luke Rockhold with a highlight reel reverse head kick.

In addition, the Prelims on Fuel TV received 156,000 viewers for a 0.35 rating.  It was down from January’s UFC on FX 7 Prelims on Fuel TV.  But, it was up from the 132,000 viewer average.

Payout Perspective:

Average numbers for a card that did not have too many popular fighters known to many in the United States.  The event is the last of its kind on FX as the bulk of UFC programming moves to the new Fox Sports 1 network in August.

Not very good for a network available to 100 million homes

Good numbers for a Brazil card. They have to do shows to build the Brazil market and if they can draw over a million viewers here at the same time. Just a cherry on top. Still better than boxing.

Average ratings for an average card. Like it or not, star power is what moves the needle foe the casual fan (in conjunction with what the competition is on that evening). Belfort v Bisping and his star power (or name recognition) will outperform Belfort v Rockhold who has no UFC fights.

This is all mute anyway. It is now clear the plan was to move fights and some shoulder programming to Fox Sports 1 (I still have to believe some will be on Fox Sports 2) once it was created. That will be the real testament to the deal.

This is okay. I think it would be much better if they promoted their FX cards, but I can see why it costs money to promote.

Lol I don’t even think boxing sites mention boxing anymore. You want proof boxing is dead? Sampson and Tops are on MMA Payout. There is t anything interesting on boxing to even talk about in their own online community to keep them entertained. So they come here to see what a thriving sport feels like.

I don’t get your logic brainsmasher…you just mentioned a “dead”sport in your post above when there are no mention of that dead sport in the article.and in an mma website..and comparing a supposed dead sport to mma?”still better than boxing” lol……

I mention wrestling a lot too. Like boxing it is dead as a spectator sport. See, the thing is, MMA doesn’t depend on a minority to be champ to trick peoe into following the sport. We don’t need someone watching because so and so is philipeno or black or Mexican. Peoe just like the sport itself on it’s own merits. Not a gimmick.

No offense to MMA Payout but I wouldn’t use this sites online community as proof of MMA being a thriving sport. all you ever see on here is the same 6-8 people posting and it’s usually just trolling each other, LOL

A change in position argument I see…so b.s ur stand is from “boxing is dead” to “boxing is dead as a spectator sport”…lol…….
Check the definition of spectator A person who watches or looks on…..minorities are included in the definition also brainsmasher hahaha…so mayweather got 1 million plus ppv from people not watching haha
And they were “tricked” into it….lol

They watch Maywether and what ever Mexican he beats up to bring in viewers. But take his name off the marquee and see how many pay to see boxing. You put Golden Boy presents: Boxing and no one will watch. Because they don’t give a shit about the sport of boxing only a few individuals in it. The UFC can put on a PPV and not release the fight card and still sell 200K PPV buys because people want to see MMA fights and pay good money to do so.
