You’re correct that it’s not unusual. Case in point, the Donaire – Nishioka world championship fight on HBO last Saturday drew a live gate of around $430,000. I’ve heard that Donaire and Nishioka combined for well over $1.5 million in salary for just those two. Both these HBO cards and the UFC on FX deals are making out really well, though, due to the payouts television payouts.

I dont think the UFC wants Jay Hieron anywhere near its better fighters. He got paid 12k to fight The Juggernaut?! That’s not exactly a warm up fight! This was after stalling out his Strikeforce title fight cuz they didnt want him to lay on Diaz for 25 minutes a la Joe Riggs.
