UFC on Fox 4: 2.14 million viewer average

August 5, 2012 by Jason Cruz 7 Comments

Television By the Numbers reports that UFC on Fox 4 received an average of 2.14 million viewers and peaked at 2.36 million. The UFC ran second to the Olympics in ratings for Saturday night.

The breakdown is as follows for the 18-49 demo:

8:00pm –  0.9, 1.91 avg. viewers
8:30pm –  1.1, 2.10
9:00pm –  1.2, 2.20
9:30pm –  1.2., 2.36

Payout Perspective:

The numbers above do not include the west coast tape delay or the overrun.  Although some markets (like Seattle) ran UFC on Fox at 5pm and then reran it immediately at 8pm.  Running second to the Olympics is a good result.  Of course, ABC ran the Eddie Murphy movie, “Norbit” and CBS had cop drama “NYC 22.”  UFC on Fox 3 in May won its timeslot with an average viewership of 2.25 million.  UFC on Fox 2 earned a 4.66 million average in January.  UFC on Fox last November scored a 5.7 million viewer average.

Saturday’s numbers are not impressive but this was expected.  The good news is that the quality and excitement of fights were much better than UFC on Fox 2 or 3.  In addition, the live attendance and gate showed that the UFC brand still can draw despite lack of a title or name at the top of the card.

More horrific figures that will leave the UFC without a place to go if FOX decides to pull the plug in 2013.

Can’t wait to see it happen.

The article on MMAJunkie again highlights how great the Prelims did on Fuel, which is a big who-gives-a-shit as far as I’m concerned. I was hoping for better numbers than the Diaz-Miller fight. I thought Shogun and Machida would be bigger draws (even though they weren’t fighting each other). The people who didn’t watch missed a great show, which begs the question, “if two combatants put on a great fight in the forest does it make an impact?”

It seems that TKO has really screwed up WWE/Wrestlemania with ads and celebs and getting away from the heart of pro wrestling - and talented performers are paying the price.
