Server Issues Resolved

May 27, 2010 by Kelsey Philpott 9 Comments

We are pleased to announce that we have made a switch from the troublesome GoDaddy.com servers to our new home! You should no longer be experiencing redirect issues with any browser type, although we’re still working out the kinks with the posting system. However, if you do experience any difficulties, I’d really like to be informed ASAP.

If you were one of the unlucky people victimized by the issues, we’d really like to apologize. Moreover, we’d like to welcome you back and bring you up to speed on what you might have missed:

  • UFC 113: 520,000 buys (Early Report)
  • Rampage vs. Rashad, Episode II: 875,000 viewers (good thoughts on the viewer conversion rate from TUF to Primetime)
  • Lindland on Unions in MMA
  • UFC 113: Payout Perspective

I had to stop visiting the site due to all the problems.

So I’m glad you finally got this worked out.

The problem wasn’t that bad (just had to press “stop” on my browser a lot) but it’s good to know the issues have finally been resolved. Congrats guys.

I am glad to see that you guys are back up again, I had this virus on my site too and it is ridiculous that Godaddy is blaming WordPress for their server and database issues.

Hackers are literally sitting and waiting for any exposure in Godaddy’s Databases that are attached to WordPress websites and takeover entire sites, but Godaddy will not admit it.

Good to see MMAPayout.com is up and running again.

@Machiel Van we had the same problem on my site for Five days, it cost us Hundreds of Dollars and more then 60% of our viewers. The second visitors see that warning they run from the site and do not return. I have even had some of my most loyal readers stay away from our site to this day.

@Narcisist: Sorry for the dismissive tone, I wasn’t trying to downplay the damage that these kinds of things can do. It’s sad that hackers perpetrate these kinds of crimes with no regard for the way it effects peoples’ businesses. It’s really no different from someone vandalizing a physical business. Hope that sites like this one and yours do not fall prey to these types of attacks again.

@Machiel Van, I didn’t take any offense to it.

I agree with you on the Hackers too. It has gotten so bad with Hackers on Godaddy that while I was restoring my site, I would set up the necessary files and it would literally read “Hahahahahaha” five minutes after the install was complete. Someone had registered as the Admin and taken over everything. It’s crazy because we even had to stop registration on our site.

I feel for Payout, because it makes you literally want to quit because you do not know how to fix it. Godaddy’s reps did not tell me about where the virus was until almost 4 days after the fact, it was a nightmare.

Thanks so much for fixing the problem and best of luck surviving the storm!

Between chrome and 2 antivirus running I SEEM to have been unaffected. Still, if not for the quality or your content I could have easily never returned after seeing that first antivirus alert.

As an IT professional, thanks also for elaborating on the source of the issue so I know a tiny bit more who to trust if the issue comes up. I know from experience that this may not even be a lack of ability in IT. It could just be a lack of priority from management to implement the solution. Bad PR can give IT the ammo it needs to justify what it knows needs to be done.
