Mission Skincare Adds GSP

March 23, 2010 by Kelsey Philpott 1 Comment

Mission Skincare, a line of skin care products designed specifically for athletes, has signed UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St-Pierre to a new endorsement deal.

NEW YORK, March 22 /PRNewswire/ — MISSION Skincare®, the first and only line of Athlete-Engineered® Skincare products, is pleased to announce that Mixed Martial Arts Welterweight Champion and 2-Time Canadian Athlete of the Year, Georges St-Pierre, will be joining the ranks of some of the world’s most celebrated athletes as a co-founder of the brand. MISSION Skincare products are designed and tested by elite athletes to help people of all ages live an active lifestyle with healthier, stronger skin.

“To excel in mixed martial arts, you have to keep every part of your body in the best possible condition, especially your skin,” said Georges St-Pierre. “MISSION’s products directly help me prepare, perform and recover from training and competition.”

We’re very excited to have Georges on a MISSION with us,” said Steve Nash, MISSION Co-Founder and 2-Time League MVP. “His intense year-round training regimen and commitment to excellence make him the perfect new partner as we strive to deliver the world’s best performance skincare products.”

Payout Perspective:

While not Gatorade or Under Armour, this is still a significant deal. GSP now joins a host of other elite athletes like Serena Williams and Steve Nash as co-founders of the Mission Skincare brand – that’s pretty good company. More importantly, this deal signals the continued development of GSP’s career away from the cage.

I also think it’s interesting to point out that few, if any, MMA fighters could have signed a deal like this, and that’s part of the entire GSP package; he’s not just a fighter with tremendous talent, but he’s also got broader appeal. His look and his personality will allow him to go out and sign a deal with a skin products company or appear in GQ magazine.

Ultimately, that appeal will reflect positively on his ability to draw people to his fights, especially on the female side (which is a demo MMA is currently trying to capture).

This isn’t the last deal of this genre, so to speak, that we’ll likely see from him.
