Despite the ongoing military threat going on in Saudi Arabia, WWE will be holding its Crown Jewel event on Saturday. A report from Fightful Select states that WWE crew (non-office/non-talent) are being offered hazard pay to go on the trip to Saudi Arabia.
Crew members are reportedly being offered $3,000 to go to Saudi Arabia. The country, especially the city of Riyadh is under threat of aerial strikes from Iran-supported Houthi rebels. Fightful reports several crew members have decided not to make the trip.
Notably, the arena in which Crown Jewel is held is the same venue that held the Canelo Alvarez fight last week.
During TKO’s earnings call on Wednesday, Mark Shapiro stated that any threat of harm to the WWE talent, staff and crew were extremely minimal. However, the U.S. issued a Security Alert for non-essential U.S. workers and their families leave the country.
Multiple outlets have reported that WWE is working with a private security firm for this trip. However, no one’s safety is guaranteed even with private security.
One would think that $3,000 is not enough money to make the trip to Saudi Arabia. We hope that they all make it back safely but seems like an unnecessary risk.
