Covington sues Masvidal for battery

April 4, 2026 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

Colby Covington filed a lawsuit against Jorge Masvidal on March 23rd stemming from an incident 3 years prior at a steak house in Miami.

Masvidal allegedly struck Covington outside the restaurant. According to the lawsuit, Masvidal “attempted to conceal his identity by wearing a blue surgical mask and a hoodie and was accompanied by three or four other individuals…” The civil lawsuit notes that Masvidal entered a plea of guilty to battery. He was sentenced to two days imprisonment with credit for time served.

The civil lawsuit states that the attack on Covington was “unprovoked” and that his attack resulted in “physical harm.”

Look for the parties to settle this case although Masvidal’s best defense is that Covington has no damages. Masvidal would argue that a punch did not debilitate Covington and he is exaggerating his injuries. As an MMA athlete, someone like Covington could not be as injured as he claims. Of course, that’s a tough defense because its clear that the batter occurred based on the police report and Masvidal’s sentence. MPO will continue to follow.
