Jones requests UFC release

March 9, 2026 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

Jon Jones took to social media to request his release from the UFC. His announcement comes after Dana White dismissed questions that Jones was a possibility for The White House card on June 14th.

White took questions about The White House card which was revealed on Saturday during UFC 326. In the post-fight press conference, he said that Jones was never in his mind to fight at The White House. However, Jones contradicts White’s comments stating that his team “were actually negotiating with the UFC for that fight.” Jones claimed that he came down from “my original number” referring to his pay to return to the Octagon.

Hey everyone, I wanted to address Dana White’s comments from this past weekend, because the truth matters to me and the fans.

Per Jones’ X Account:

Hey everyone, I wanted to address Dana White’s comments from this past weekend, because the truth matters to me and the fans. Dana, you were heated about why I’m not on the White House card, but let’s clear something up. My team and I were actually negotiating with the UFC for that fight. Real negotiations. I even came down from my original number, and what was I offered in return ? I was lowballed . Yes, I have arthritis in my hip and it’s painful, but that doesn’t mean I can’t fight. So let me get this straight, if I had accepted the lowball offer, suddenly my hip would be fine and I’d be on the White House card? That doesn’t make sense. I even received stem cell treatment last week to get ready for the White House card, and training camp was scheduled to start today. I was preparing to be ready. I understand business deals fall through sometimes, but going out publicly and saying things that aren’t true isn’t right. After everything I’ve given to the UFC , the years, the title defenses, the fights , hearing that I’m “done” is disappointing. Especially when as recently as Friday UFC was calling me trying to get me on that White House card for a much lower number. If the UFC truly feels like I’m done, then I respectfully ask to be released from my contract today. No more spins, no more games. Thank you to the real fans who know what’s up. Bones out.

Payout Perspective:

It’s highly unlikely that Jones will be granted his release so long as he has fights left on his UFC deal. Moreover, the UFC does not want him to go to rival promotion PFL or even do a one-off fight with Most Valuable Promotions to do a fight with Francis Ngannou. Why? Jones is a proven commodity in the world of MMA. Despite his bad hip and outside troubles, Jones is a great MMA fighter. Even with the hip, it sounds like Jones is willing to treat it enough to compete. Perhaps Jones social media announcement is another way to grab headlines and get the UFC to come to the negotiating table. But, Jones finds himself in a position with some leverage. The UFC heavyweight division is non-existent and lacks credible names. Jones and Ngannou are two fighters that could possibly put on an event that would grab headlines and attention away from the UFC>
