Jon Jones unretires

July 5, 2025 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

It is not surprising that Jon Jones announced on Friday that he has re-entered the UFC drug testing pool about two weeks after he called Dana White to retire.

Jones, like Conor McGregor, looking for that cherished attention that feeds their fragile egos wish, saw the president’s proclamation that he wants UFC fights at The White House next year. Jones announced on twitter that he put his name back into the testing pool.

Jones forfeited the UFC Heavyweight Championship on June 21st as he told the promotion that he was retiring. He then confirmed via social media. At the same time, news came out that he was a part of a criminal investigation where there was a hit and run in which the driver fled the scene, leaving his passenger in the car after the airbags deployed. Police bodycam footage saw the officer speaking with what sounds like Jon Jones on the phone. The person on the phone spoke with slurred words and a veiled threat.

Should we feel excited about Jones’ alleged return? Similar to McGregor, there is a great chance that even if they are scheduled to fight, it will not happen. Moreover, Jones seems like he has no plan on his future and with all the legal troubles, he needs to keep making an income to sustain his lifestyle.
