The Nevada State Athletic Commission had its monthly meeting on Thursday and one of the action items was to address Khalil Rountree’s positive drug test finding of the anabolic steroid DHEA. But, Rountree self-reported the infraction and worked with the UFC’s anti-doping agency to discover the source was a supplement.
The Combat Sports Anti-Doping agency internally suspended Rountree for two months starting on May 4th. Rountree had indicated that he was going to sue the supplement maker as he had to back out of his fight scheduled for UFC 303.
The NAC issued a suspension of 4.5 months and a fine of $157.04 for prosecution fees as part of a settlement agreement approved by the commission. However, the suspension to fight will end prior to Rountree’s next scheduled fight against light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira.
Payout Perspective:
A good ruling all-around considering Rountree’s willing to self-report. As a result, it was clear that the NAC did not want to penalize Rountree any further after he already had to pull out of a fight this year. The 4.5 months end prior to Rountree’s fight for the light heavyweight championship fight which is the biggest in his career.
