Rountree CSAD suspension reduced to 2 months

May 22, 2024 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

Khalil Rountree announced that he was out of UFC 303 due to “consuming a banned substance.” Rountree self-reported the infraction and stated that he did not intentionally take the banned substance. The Combat Sports Anti-Doping (CSAD) Agency announced a reduced sentence of 2 months.

Rountree was scheduled to fight Jamahal Hill at UFC 303 next month but had to pull out due to the issue. CSAD, the agency that took over for USADA to run the UFC’s drug program issued a 2-month suspension due to the mitigating factors that Rountree was sent a “therapeutic blend” products “without prior approval.” CSAD followed-up with the supplement maker to confirm that it was a mistake and the mix contained the banned substance DHEA.

Payout Perspective:

This is just the third time that CSAD has had to intervene in an issue since taking over this past year. The 2-month suspension seems fair although Rountree was honest with the organization about his mistake, provided evidence corroborating his story and it appears that it would not have had any unfair advantage. Thus, it would seem that Rountree’s mistake (or his mistake to trust the supplement company) cost him a prime spot on what should be the card of the year. So, this could have been punishment enough.
