ESPN’s Mike Coppinger reports that Canelo Alvarez will return to the boxing ring on September 14th at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas against Edgar Berlanga.
Notably, the fight takes place on the same day as Riyadh Season Noche UFC in Las Vegas. The company is promoting a big fight card that will take place at the UFC Sphere on the same date. Also of note, the UFC is one of the anchor tenants of T-Mobile Arena but since it is having an event elsewhere, it has booked (arguably) boxing’s biggest draw in Canelo Alvarez.
Although the main event(s) have not been officially announced by the UFC, the rumor is Sean O’Malley taking on Merab Dvalishvili. Also, Alexa Grasso defending her flyweight title.
All of this also occurs on Mexican Independence Weekend which was traditionally a big boxing event weekend in Las Vegas.
If the fight occurs, Vegas will be booming with combat sports fans September 14th.
