Conor McGregor out of UFC 303

June 13, 2024 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

Dana White made it official via IG on Thursday night that Conor McGregor is out of his return fight against Michael Chandler at UFC 303. The new main event has Alex Pereira defending his light heavyweight title against Jiri Prochazka.

Rumors were swirling that something was wrong when a press conference set for Dublin was abruptly cancelled. While both fight camps kept up the facade that the fight was still on, the overwhelming believe was that due to an undisclosed injury the UFC 303 main event was in jeopardy.

Chandler, set to fight McGregor, will now have to wait again for his shot. No word on the injury although multiple rumors have the former double champ’s injury as minor and he will be able to fight later this year.

In addition, the UFC had to reshuffle the UFC 303 lineup with adding a fight between Diego Lopes and Brian Ortega to replace Jamahal Hill-Carlos Ulberg. Ulberg will now take on Anthony Smith.

McGregor not being able to fight is yet another setback for one of the biggest draws (if not the biggest) in UFC history. The UFC will once again look to Pereira to headline another big card in 2024. Good news for the Brazilian but bad news for all of the McGregor fans that made plans on coming to Vegas in June.
