WWE terminates agreement with Panini, may seek injunction

September 20, 2023 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

WWE and its most recent card sponsor Panini are in a battle after the sports and entertainment company terminated Panini’s contract with it. However, according to WWE, Panini continues to sell WWE product which is in violation of the contract and will seek a court injunction for Panini to cease and desist.

Panini and WWE had an agreement which would have had the two partners through 2025. Fanatics, the Jacksonville, Florida-based company specializing in sports collectibles is taking over the space in 2026 but could be immediately be put in place

JUST IN: Two weeks ago, the WWE terminated Panini for breach of contract with 2+ years left.

The WWE says Panini, which is still selling product, is now in violation and will seek an injunction.

Fanatics, which had deal starting in ‘26, is expected to get rights immediately.

At this point, we do not know the reason for the breach of contract by WWE and why Panini continued to sell product after termination. It would seem that the breach may relate to and/or coincide to the recent merger between the WWE and UFC.

Interesting - in the early 2000s, HBO had to defend "de facto" promoter allegations in front of Congress. If DAZN uses licensed promoters to organize the fights, it's hard to call them a "promoter." SRL signed deals with ABC and HBO without having a promoter, so it's been done.
