Power Slap League to debut on TBS

November 11, 2022 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

Dana White announced that his Power Slap League will begin in January and will air on TBS.  Eight episodes will feature the new league gets its take from similar leagues in Poland, Russia and smaller regional promotions across the U.S.

As inferred in the name, sport has two competitors open-hand slap each other from a short distance. The telecasts on TBS will be similar to that of The Ultimate Fighter.

Via press release:

UFC President Dana White today announced the launch of Power Slap, a sanctioned and regulated combat sport focused on competitive open-handed striking. Formed by Dana White, LorenzoFertitta and Craig Piligian, in partnership with Ultimate Fighting Championship and Endeavor, and produced byPilgrim Media Group, Power Slap will feature competitors from across the globe competing on the ultimate stageto showcase their power, technique and resolve.

The sport Power Slap will launch with an eight episode series that will air on TBS in early 2023 where athletes will compete to earn a spot in the cast house, the first Power Slap rankings, in future Power Slap Matches and world recognition.

Payout Perspective:

White, et al. is using the same game plan that it did when it introduced the UFC to a broader audience.  While I do not believe that White, et al. is paying TBS as Zuffa did to air TUF on Spike TV, the shows will bring a reality TV feel that many casual viewers will watch as opposed to a straight competitive sports element.  It will be interesting to see how this venture will do. Certainly the UFC (and Dana White) brand is helping Power Slap League this time around and it will be interesting to see the placement of the show on TBS.
