The UFC announced that it would pay fighters in Bitcoin as part of a new campaign with Crypto.com that allows fans to choose who should receive a bonus at PPV events.
Fan voting will decide which top three fighters from each UFC PPV will win bitcoin bonuses of $30,000, $20,000 and $10,000 for first, second and third in conjunction with UFC sponsor Crypto.com.
Crypto.com signed a lucrative sponsorship deal with the UFC and the new promotion highlights the cryptocurrency platform.
The bitcoin bonuses will be in addition to the traditional Fight of the Night and Performance Bonuses chosen by the UFC at the end of each event.
The fan voting will be open to UFC followers worldwide on Crypto.com’s web site. Each fan will receive 3 votes per PPV and can vote for two fighters within each bout. The voting starts at the beginning of each PPV and end one hour after the event.
This idea is similar to one with Olivier Aubin-Mercier. The former UFC and current PFL fighter wore a QR code in which people could pay him in bitcoin during an event.
Payout Perspective:
Presumably, the cryptocurrency bonuses could eventually be worth more than the initial award. Also, it could be worth less. The program is an example of the partnership activation that the UFC and Crypto.com are launching starting at UFC 273. Not only will fighters be compensated, but fans that vote will be led to the company’s web site.
