Masvidal taken into police custody

March 23, 2022 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

Jorge Masvidal was arrested on two counts on Wednesday night after his altercation with Colby Covington at a Miami-area steak house on Monday night. He faces one count of aggravated battery resulting in great bodily harm and one count of criminal mischief.

Masvidal is being held at Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in Miami on a $15,000 bond per a report by MMA Junkie which obtained a copy of the criminal complaint. The Complaint is also embedded in this tweet by the Miami Beach Police.

– Felony Criminal Mischief

Covington lost a tooth and damaged an expensive watch he was wearing. According to the Complaint, Masvidal stated “You shouldn’t have been talking about my kids” during the attack. This is in reference to the promotion of their PPV fight a couple weeks back in which Covington allegedly talked about Masvidal’s kids.

Payout Perspective:

According to the ESPN report, Masvidal could face a maximum of up to 15 years in prison and/or a $10K fine for the charges. I would not expect any prison time for Masvidal although a fine is likely at this point. While it may garner Masvidal street cred, its not the way a professional athlete should conduct themselves. Masvidal had the chance to settle his differences in the Octagon but it didn’t work out for him. Seeking vengeance in public seemed like a poor plan.

Yes, the Pulitzer-winning journalist is the source we should ignore, not the people who continue to want access to the LA sports team they cover. This was a dumb thing to think and an even dumber thing to tweet.
