On Wednesday night’s AEW Dynamite Tony Khan announced that the organization has purchased Ring of Honor from Sinclair Broadcasting. The move includes the promotion’s video library dating back to 2002, brand assets, intellectual property, production equipment and more.
According to a report from Bodyslam.net, the acquisition was for $30-$40 million although that was not confirmed.

The speculation about the acquisition is that it makes AEW much more attractive as streaming partner as it acquires a vast library with a lot of current top roster talent when they first started. It also answers the question of what was going to happen with ROH after it decided to take the first quarter of 2022 off. There is speculation that ROH will be a developmental territory to AEW as WWE used NXT in the early days.
It’s a good move for AEW if its aim is to expand and go into partnership with a digital streamer or go out on its own with its own platform. It also provides some answers to the question of what to do with all the recent signings and current talent on the roster.
