Anik involved in latest Modelo-UFC promotion

February 3, 2022 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

Modelo is launching a new promotion around the UFC and this time Jon Anik will be a part of it.

The contest involves some synergy with another one of the UFC’s sponsors, DraftKings.

By entering free contests on DraftKings, fans will compete for a chance at two $10,000 cash prizes and a chance to win the “gold standard of fan experiences,” including floor seats and travel to 10 of the year’s biggest pay-per-view events in Las Vegans and around the country throughout the year.  The contest started February 1st and runs through April 9th with the grand prize winner meeting Anik at the UFC Apex for a behind-the-scenes look at what it’s like to be an MMA commentator.

Per Boardroom, the prize also includes:

  • Receive a pair of gold ticket floor seats
  • Be guests of Anik’s during fight week, during which they can take part in his pre-fight announcer rituals, receive exclusive, behind-the-scene access to pre-fight weigh-ins
  • Participate in meet-and-greets
  • Receive a special walkout announcement video from Anik

Anik is one of the most likeable guys in MMA so utilizing him is a great choice and the involvement of DraftKings in this promotion reflects the ability for the UFC to work with multiple partners on promotions to add value to its base of fans.

Interesting - in the early 2000s, HBO had to defend "de facto" promoter allegations in front of Congress. If DAZN uses licensed promoters to organize the fights, it's hard to call them a "promoter." SRL signed deals with ABC and HBO without having a promoter, so it's been done.
