Floyd Mayweather enters NASCAR with TMT car

February 1, 2022 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

Floyd Mayweather is making his move into NASCAR.  On Tuesday, he announced his foray into the sport in an attempt to qualify a car into the Daytona 500.

The Money Team Racing will have 23-year-old Kaz Grala as their driver.

According to the report on NASCAR.com, the team will compete in “select” races during the rest of the Cup Series season.

Sunglass manufacturer, Pti Viper, will be the team’s primary sponsor.  Tony Eury, Jr. will be the crew chief for the No. 50 Chevy.

The number 50 is being used as the number of wins Mayweather has in his professional career.

Payout Perspective:

This is obviously a play to get in front of the same demo as those that watched him as a boxer. Mayweather remains involved in combat sports but also invests his money and with this new venture it seems as though that he wants to make inroads into an industry that is continuing to grow.

Interesting - in the early 2000s, HBO had to defend "de facto" promoter allegations in front of Congress. If DAZN uses licensed promoters to organize the fights, it's hard to call them a "promoter." SRL signed deals with ABC and HBO without having a promoter, so it's been done.
