Top 10 of 2021: No. 6 Bellator moves to Showtime

December 30, 2021 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

Bellator moved to CBS-owned Showtime in 2021 after a brief stint on CBS Sports Network in 2020.  The promotion began it run this past April with most events airing on Friday nights.  It also used a subscription special in order to entice fans to sign up for Showtime.

Ratings on Showtime were sparse considering it was on premium cable. The promotion did hold the Bellator Featherweight and Light Heavyweight Grand Prix Tournament.  The Featherweight Grand Prix Finals saw one of the more anticipated match-up for the promotion this year with A.J. McKee defeating Patricio Freire in the first round this past July.  The Light Heavyweight Grand Prix Tournament is set for the final in 2022 with Corey Anderson and current champ Vadim Nemkov in the Final.

Promotion head Scott Coker intimated plans that Bellator could air on CBS at a point down the road.

The company has gone from Paramount to CBS Sports Network to Showtime in the past couple years.  Will the promotion find a final home on Showtime with bigger events going to Showtime?  We will see what 2022 holds for the company.
