AEW Dynamite’s return to Wednesday: 941K viewers

October 28, 2021 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

AEW Dynamite returned to Wednesday night and immediately saw the dividends.  It drew 941,000 viewers and ranked 4th overall in cable for Wednesday night per Nielsen via ShowBuzz Daily.

AEW drew 0.40 in the A18-49 demo, 023 in F18-49, 0.56 in M18-49, 0.24 in A18-34, 0.15 in F12-34, 0.23 in M12-34, 0.44 in A25-54 and 0.34 in the over 50 category.

The two-hour Dynamite now shares Wednesdays with the NHL. The past two weeks it was moved to Saturday night due to the debut of the new hockey season.

In comparison, this past Saturday, AEW Dynamite drew 575,000 viewers.

The return to Wednesday saw an increase in viewers however it was still lower than the last time it was on Wednesday night on October 6th when it drew 1.053M viewers.

Payout Perspective:

The ratings fluctuations is due largely to the NHL coming to TNT and displacing AEW.  Still, the return to Wednesday helped the ratings for AEW as more of the fan base tuned in.  Its notable that AEW served as the lead-in to the NHL.  The NHL Pre-Game immediately after AEW drew 357,000 while game between the Flyers and Oilers drew 296,000 viewers which is a big dropoff from AEW.

I should point out that according to those at TKO that the ESPN/MVPW boxing deal is a revenue sharing agreement similar to the original AEW/Turner deal in 2019 and not a full paying media rights deal which Top Rank had and wasn't renewed.
