August 24, 2021 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

AEW Rampage on TNT Friday night scored enormous ratings with the return of CM Punk to professional wrestling.

Rampage scored 1.129M viewers per Nielsen via ShowBuzz Daily.  It drew 0.53 in A18-49, 0.35 in F18-49, 0.72 in M18-49, 0.33 in A18-34, 0.18 in F12-34, 0.35 in M12-34, 0.59 in A25-54 and 0.34 in over 50.  The telecast was second next to an NFL Preseason Game on ESPN Friday night.

The return of CM Punk was widely known and hinted at ad nauseum during AEW telecasts.  The former WWE star came through with a resounding promo at the beginning of the show.

Notably, the NFL game drew 0.55 in A18-49 and 0.73 in M18-49.  In comparison, AEW drew 0.53 in A18-49 and 0.72 M18-49.  Not too far off.

The ratings show the popularity of Punk and AEW’s ability to create buzz for the product.  It set up a great visual and a ton of social media buzz.
