UFC on ESPN 28 took place Saturday night at The Apex in Las Vegas. The event featured some great action and a relief for one of the $50K bonus winners.
Cheyanne Buys earned a $50K bonus for her stoppage of Gloria de Paula in a strawweight showdown. Buys was up front of her need for the extra money as she candidly said in her post-fight interview that she was ‘broke.’ In a video that has gone viral, she was very emotional once she heard the news that she received the performance bonus. It’s a heartwarming story as well as a reason to give pause about fighter wages.
Melsik Baghadasaryan also received a performance bonus with a TKO of Collin Anglin in the second round. It was a fight between two graduates of Dana White’s Contender Series.
The Fight of the Night went to Jason Witt and Bryan Barbarena. The fight was a back-and-forth affair eventually won by Witt although won judge gave the match a draw.
