Pacquiao announces fight with Spence in August

May 21, 2021 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

Manny Pacquiao will be fighting Errol Spence on August 21st in Las Vegas per a social media post by the Filipino senator.

It will be the first fight for Pacquiao since he defeated Keith Thurman via split decision in July 2019.  It will be the toughest test for Pacquiao in some time as he faces the undefeated Spence who last fought in December to retain the WBC and IBF welterweight titles this past December.

There is some irony to this announcement as a fight between Pacquiao and Terrence Crawford was set for Saudi Arabia in June but the deal fell through. A Crawford-Spence fight has been alluding fight fans for years. Now, Pacquiao and Spence fight with the possibility of Crawford waiting for a winner.

Payout Perspective:

No word on the site of the fight although the Fury-Wilder fight will be in Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas July 24th.  Perhaps two months of boxing events at the home of the Raiders.  The timing of the fight seems right with the NFL and College Football starting the following weekend and no other events during this time.  The fervor for this fight will be big as it could be a changing of the guard in boxing or the return of Pacquiao as a boxing king.
