UFC unveils “8K” cameras Saturday night

February 14, 2021 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

On Saturday night, the UFC unveiled a new camera view for its PPV.  The camera angle is similar to the 8K view used by the NFL during the tail-end of the regular season and into the playoffs.

As explained by Brandon Costa when it first rolled out, it’s a Sony mirrorless on a handheld gimbal.  So, while it may not be the “9K” as Daniel Cormier joked on the broadcast, it still presents a cinematic feel.

The new camera came with a mixed reaction while many enjoyed it, there were some that did not and perhaps there was an overuse of the camera.

Oh yes, we have 8K cameras in the UFC! 🤩#UFC258 pic.twitter.com/fGGFDffEpq

Payout Perspective:

The camera is likely a sign of the future for broadcast television to give the viewers more of an artistic rendering of the action.  While the camera is not 8K, we can expect more high-tech in the future which the promotion hopes to a high-class feel.
