Report: Spence-Garcia draws in “excess of 250,000 buys”

December 12, 2020 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

The Athletic reports that the Errol Spence, Jr.-Danny Garcia fight drew in “excess of 250,000 buys at $75, pulling in at least $18,750,000.  The event took place last week at Cowboys Stadium in Dallas.

According to Coppinger, Spence’s last two fights drew over 300,000 PPV buys.  This event was produced by PBC on Fox.  The last PPV done by PBC drew over 200,000 buys.

Notably, the week prior to the fight, the Mike Tyson-Roy Jones, Jr. fight drew over 1 million PPV buys with the event’s sponsor saying it surpassed 1.6 million.

Payout Perspective:

The PPV buy rate does not seem huge in comparison to UFC big event numbers but drawing an estimated $18.7M without a full gate is solid.  Boxing fans may take issue with UFC comparisons considering Spence is one of the top fighters in the sport and can only draw over 250K where a UFC card can draw this with not top-of-the-sport fighters.
