Grant and Roberson out as two more fights postponed due to COVID-19 for UFC 256

December 8, 2020 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

Two more UFC fights for this Saturday have been taken of the event due to positive COVID-19 tests.  Dwight Grant announced via social media that he tested positive for COVID-19.  Also, Karl Roberson and Angela Hill tested positive which put their fights off for this week’s PPV.

Grant announced that he tested positive but “symptoms haven’t been severe,” according to his Instagram post.  Roberson and his opponent Dalcha Lungiambula will fight at UFC Vegas 17 after the former kickboxer tested positive for COVID-19.

Hill announced at the beginning of the week that she tested positive for COVID-19 and her fight with Tecia Torres was off.

In addition, a fight between Andrea Lee and Gillian Robertson was cancelled after a non-COVID-19 injury to Lee.  Robertson will fight on December 19th against Taila Santos.

Payout Perspective:

It is only the beginning of the fight week but the UFC is down four fights.  There is no news if Grant’s opponent Li Jingliang will find another opponent.  Similarly, Tecia Torres may find someone new but at this time both are still looking.  With the pandemic hitting the nation hard, the cancellations are expected but the constant reshuffling has to be hard for the promotion.

I should point out that according to those at TKO that the ESPN/MVPW boxing deal is a revenue sharing agreement similar to the original AEW/Turner deal in 2019 and not a full paying media rights deal which Top Rank had and wasn't renewed.
