Weedmaps serving as sponsor for Tyson-Jones fight

November 24, 2020 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

According to Sportico, Weedmaps will sponsor the upcoming Mike Tyson-Roy Jones, Jr. fight on November 27th in California.  Weedmaps is a tech company based out of Irvine, California that provides users with information on marijuana dispensaries, brands, deliveries, deals and doctors closest to the user.

Weedmaps branding will appear in the ring and on screen during the PPV event.  There will be a content spot featuring rapper Nas that will air twice during the show.

The company started out as a web site for medical marijuana patients to connect and discuss local cannabis co-ops and dispensaries.  It grew and with the legalization of marijuana in many states became a profitable company.

Tyson has his own weed dispensary and Weedmaps includes reviews for some of his products.

Payout Perspective:

According to the article, it appears that Weedmaps has the money to forge into other sponsorships which may include more than just events.  As the legalization of marijuana increases across the U.S., we should see more sponsors from the cannabis industry in sports.
