Khabib leads UFC 254 bonuses

October 24, 2020 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

UFC 254 took place today on Fight Island in the conclusion of the fall edition of the events on Abu Dhabi.  Khabib Nurmogomedov earned a Performance of the Night bonus for his final fight in MMA as he announced his retirement after submitting Justin Gaethje in the second round.

Nurmogomedov earned his $50,000 for his beautiful mounted triangle into a triangle submission.  Khabib had several slick grappling transitions never seen prior and he brought them out for what would be his last fight in MMA as he announced it after the victory.

Also receiving bonuses were Magomed Anklaev who KO’d Ion Cutelaba in the first round of their fight and the Casey Kenney-Nathaniel Wood earned the Fight of the night.  Kenney earned the victory in a hard-fought battle on the prelims.

Payout Perspective:

There were several candidates for Performance Bonus including Lauren Murphy, Phil Hawes and Alexander Volkov on the main card.  Still, the event belonged to Khabib who fought through several fight camp issues including a broken foot to put on one of the best performances of his career against likely the best fighter he’s faced.
