Dana White and UFC fighters to attend Trump fundraiser

September 11, 2020 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

This Sunday, President Donald Trump is hosting a reception featuring special guests Dana White, Roy Jones, Jr., Colby Covington, Justin Gaethje, and Henry Cejudo.  The fundraiser requires invitees to pay $2,800 per person to enter.

The invite disclosed by Steve Sebelius, was sent out by Keystone Corp.  There is no location for the reception although the hosts include Don Ahearn and George Harris which would infer that it will be in Las Vegas.  Ahearn and Harris have ties to the GOP in Nevada.  Harris once ran for Mayor of Las Vegas.  Ahearn is known for his family rental company business, Ahern Rentals.  He also opened the Ahern Hotel earlier this year prior to the pandemic.

Former boxer Roy Jones, Jr. is a friend of White and has had his boxing promotion air on UFC Fight Pass.  He is also slated to face Mike Tyson in November in a boxing exhibition.

White spoke at the Republican National Convention this past August and considers Trump a friend.  He allowed Trump to appear in a small video vignette during UFC 249 as it returned to live action in May.

White has donated $1 million this year to a Republican Super Pac that would help in the re-election efforts of President Trump among other GOP candidates.

Payout Perspective:

The UFC is the opposite of most of the sports leagues as it is a promotion that has openly embraced the President and whatever may be associated with it.  Maybe it is loyalty or just an affection for the President, but Dana White has decided that Trump is worth burning any potential bridges he may have with opposers of the President.  While some people have proclaimed to have stopped watching the NFL and NBA due to their stance on racism and Black Lives Matter, the UFC is 180 degrees opposite.

People who do martial arts will laugh and tell me it’s fake. But then I ask them why they do martial arts? 😉

I should point out that according to those at TKO that the ESPN/MVPW boxing deal is a revenue sharing agreement similar to the original AEW/Turner deal in 2019 and not a full paying media rights deal which Top Rank had and wasn't renewed.
