The Payout Pick – UFC 252

August 15, 2020 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

UFC 252 takes place Saturday night at The UFC Apex and it will feature the last fight of Daniel Cormier’s MMA career according to the former UFC Heavyweight Champion.  He will attempt to get back at Stipe Miocic in regaining the title in his last fight.  But will he?

In their last fight, Cormier was in control until he decided to stand and trade with Miocic instead of using his superior wrestling skills.  It proved to be his downfall as he was knocked out by the Clevelander.  Will history repeat itself or will Cormier use his grappling skills to neutralize the taller Miocic.

Oddsmakers have Miocic at +100 (now down to -110 going into Saturday) to Cormier who is the favorite at -120.  If you believe that Cormier will stick to the game plan you may want to go with Cormier.  But, in his last bout, he may attempt to pull out everything to go out on a high note.  This may mean he’ll be enticed into a stand and trade battle with Miocic which could be a problem.

Add the intrigue of a smaller cage and you have an interesting fight. Cormier should mix in his Greco-Roman background to utilize his speed on his feet but Miocic could end this fight at any moment.

Only on a hunch, I’ll go on Miocic’s ability to withstand punishment and his solid punching power to end this fight in round 3.  Although DC says its over, this is combat sports where no one really retires and if this ends with a loss, expect DC and Jon Jones on a collision course sometime in 2021.

City Hall sources are saying Mayor Katie Wilson has just fired Seattle Police Department Chief Shon Barnes.
This comes days after the Bite of Seattle mass shooting, during which Barnes was out of town at a conference. Barnes has been criticized for his frequent out of town trips.

But seriously if this is being presented as a pivot, Dana's bluster about being too easy to change the game in #boxing, is actually harder than he thought.

Zuffa Boxing’s long-term plan is becoming less clear.

The promotion launched with the goal of creating a UFC-style boxing league, but its latest moves suggest a shift toward co-promoting major fights.
