PFL launches OTT platform

August 5, 2020 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

The Professional Fighters League is launching its own over the top platform which will be available on most devices according to a company release.  The content will be free for fans and will contain previous PFL events, behind the scenes interviews as well as some of its developing material to promote its fighters.

Via company release:

“With the launch of our first OTT platform, we’re excited to fulfill the growing global demand for our product by providing fight fans around the world with free access to premium PFL content wherever, whenever and however they want to consume it,” said PFL CEO Peter Murray.

“Professional Fighters League is a media and content company. As we continue to grow, innovate, and reimagine MMA, we have placed an emphasis on engaging fans all year long through impactful storytelling and unprecedented access to the sport, our fighters, and the action inside the cage. As the app continues to evolve, this will especially be a destination for international fans outside the US.”

Payout Perspective:

At a time when there are no events occurring, this is a good move for the company to remain in the minds of MMA fans.  The app is free and should be accessible through a variety of devices including Apple TV, Roku, Fire, Android and iOS devices.  Without live events this year, the app should help keep the PFL reminding fans of its fighters as well as give them some historical fights from its first couple of years.

I should point out that according to those at TKO that the ESPN/MVPW boxing deal is a revenue sharing agreement similar to the original AEW/Turner deal in 2019 and not a full paying media rights deal which Top Rank had and wasn't renewed.
