Bellator returns with Pettis-Bandejas matchup

July 24, 2020 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

After months of being on the shelf due to COVID-19, Bellator MMA is returning with a live card Friday night airing on the Paramount Network.  The main event will feature Sergio Pettis against Ricky Bandejas in a battle of bantamweights.

The Bellator team breaks down just what "The FightSphere" is and how it all works today.

Check it out and don't forget to tune into our 1️⃣st live event in 5️⃣ months this Friday at 10/9c on @ParamountNet and @SkySports at 3am BST in the UK. pic.twitter.com/78hlnMQuER

Similar to the UFC, Bellator has organized “The FightSphere” which includes temperature checks, social distancing and deep cleaning.

Payout Perspective:

Perhaps a hard spot for Bellator coming back with live events in Uncasville.  It’s the start of MLB and the promotion has been overshadowed by the UFC which has been putting on events since May.  Certainly, the UFC has done a very good job in ensuring safety.  Bellator seeks to come back and produce some momentum after being out of action for a while.  This main fight seems like an appetizer for bigger fights to come for the organization but it feels like a big spot for Pettis who seeks to capitalize on his UFC notoriety and a division that he quickly can become a contender.
