Ahead of Fight Island, UFC fighter tests positive for COVID-19

July 3, 2020 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

UFC fighter Anderson dos Santos has tested positive for COVID-19 and his bout with Jack Shore scheduled for Fight Island on July 15th has been scrapped per MMA Fighting.

Dos Santos had been quarantined in a hotel along with other Brazilian fighters in Sao Paulo prior to traveling to Abu Dhabi.

Notably, UFC fighter Paulian Paiva’s head coach Ronildo Nobre tested positive for COVID-19.  Paiva’s fight against Zhalgas Zhumagulov at UFC 251 is still on as the fighter has been cleared to travel to Abu Dhabi.

Payout Perspective:

The UFC has tightened its COVID-19 protocols ahead of its month on Fight Island in Abu Dhabi.  The good news is that dos Santos was found to be positive prior to traveling.  The concerning news is that Paiva will travel despite the fact his head coach tested positive for the coronavirus.  The hope is that there was contact tracing involved and that Paiva was not in direct contact with his head coach.
