Joe Rogan signs licensing deal with Spotify reportedly worth over $100M

May 19, 2020 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

The Wall Street Journal reports that Joe Rogan has signed an exclusive licensing deal with Spotify reportedly worth more than $100 million.  The podcast will be available on Spotify’s free and premium tiers.

The Joe Rogan Experience is one of the largest and most lucrative podcasts in the business. The deal means that his podcast will be available only to Spotify subscribers which forecloses a great deal of his listening audience.  His library of podcasts will be available on Spotify on September 1 and his video podcasts will be removed from YouTube as it will go to his new home.

Rogan has built a revenue generating machine from his podcasts as he has an avid fan base that revere his ability to cover the full gamut of topics from sports to politics.  He has sponsor deals from the podcasts.

Payout Perspective:

A huge deal in the podcast business as Rogan takes a huge payday based on the reported milestones and performance metrics.  He is a huge influencer with one of the biggest audiences in media today.  Spotify stock closed up showing favorable response to the Rogan signing.  This also confirms that content is still a necessity despite the changing financial landscape.
