UFC athletes participating this Saturday will be tested for COVID-19 according to an emailed letter obtained by MMA Junkie. The information comes to athletes as most are traveling to Florida.
Prior to the information provided on Monday, there was not a word as to whether athletes would be tested which would lead one to believe that there would not be testing. The information learned today does not indicate how many times they would be tested, how long prior to results being learned or whether cornermen would be tested as well.
UFC 249 takes place this Saturday in Jacksonville, Florida. It will be the first of three events at the VyStar Memorial Arena in May. The ambitious schedule comes after having to shut down due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
Payout Perspective:
The good news is that athletes will be tested. But the question is what happens if a fighter or fighters test positive. Moreover, will there be enough turnaround in learning of results prior to the fight. Obviously if one of the main card fighters test positive, it would hurt the event. Also, where would the athlete quarantine if they test positive. Moreover, would everyone have to be quarantine dependent on when a positive testing athlete is discovered.
