Arum looking to get Top Rank back running

April 17, 2020 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

Top Rank Boxing is floating the idea of having small shows for its promotion as the sports world has been put on due to the Coronavirus pandemic.  Arum is looking at avenues to start back up and may look to the WWE Performance Center or the UFC Apex according to a report from ESPN.

Arum had criticized Dana White for attempting to hold UFC 249 prior to its subsequent shutdown.  Now that the state of Florida has allowed sports such as the WWE to return as essential business, he now sees a way where bringing back events at gyms could work.

In speaking with ESPN, Arum noted that the contracted fighters could train at local gyms so long as they abided by health and safety standards.  He then could run fights without an audience and the bare minimum crew to produce a show.

Payout Perspective:

The irony here is that Arum and White are archrivals and it may come down to the Top Rank head asking a favor of his nemesis.  However, I would think that Arum might go to Florida first and seek to do events at the WWE’s Performance Center as it could be both a training facility and venue for the events.  With the uncertainty of the situation, promoters are thinking outside the box to get back to holding events and fulfilling media deals.
