Conor McGregor has made Time magazine’s of 100 “Most Influential People” in the world. Arnold Schwarzenegger wrote the profile for Time.

McGregor’s brazen interviews and outlandish lifestyle coupled with his success in the Octagon has made him one of the top names in combat sports and someone that people not following the sport knows. He has single-handedly talked himself into a potential fight with Floyd Mayweather, Jr. Moreover, he’s talked himself into possibly one of the biggest paydays in combat sports.
Clearly the biggest superstar in combat sports.
In the USA yes, not in the world. I think that title now goes to Anthony Joshua with the purses he is making in the UK….with the talk of him possibly becoming the first billionaire boxer. Now that is a superstar. One also wonders what the reaction for Canelo Alvarez will be in Mexico.
We in the USA tend to look at the world as the USA……when one actually leaves it he discovers there is a lot more than just the good old Mom, Apple Pie, and the Flag out there.
No, in the world too, without question. Anthony Joshua isn’t even the biggest draw in boxing and it would be ridiculous to compare him to McGregor in terms of drawing power. McGregor fights nobodies(in terms of their ability to sell fights) and he does on average something like 1.2m ppv buys per fight and averages over 10m dollars in gate revenue per. Plus big sponsorship, int’l tv- notably Ireland/UK, etc. Joshua doesn’t do anywhere near that.
Is that a billionaire in monopoly money? This is a guy who makes less than Canelo routinely and fights on free tv in the US. That’s laughable. I doubt that guy will ever make even 80m in his career. Also, McGregor’s bigger in the UK and Ireland than Joshua is.
Canelo isn’t anywhere near as big globally as McGregor is. Not to mention the global market combined isn’t even close to as big as the US/Canada market in terms of revenue.
