UFC Fight Night 106 attendance and bonuses

March 12, 2017 by Jason Cruz 6 Comments

MMA Junkie reports the UFC Fight Night 106 attendance and bonuses for Saturday’s event from Fortzleza, Brazil.

The bonuses went to Kelvin Gastelum, Edson Barboza, Paulo Borrachinha and Michel Prazeres.

The UFC announced a sell-out of 14,069 at Centro de Formacao Olimpica do Nordeste in Fortaleza, Ceara, Brazil.  As is custom with the announcements in Brazil, no gate was announced.

The last time the UFC was in Fortzleza was in 2013 for UFC on Fuel TV 10 at a smaller venue which drew over 6,000 fans.

Payout Perspective:

A good night of fights with some entertaining finishes including Barboza’s stoppage via flying knee.  The announced attendance is a positive sign that builds on 2013’s appearance in the city.

Why doesnt the UFC release the gate of the Brazil shows? I am guessing because they charge so much less than they do in the USA, Canada, and Europe?

It is definitely a good number, thats impressive attendance. MMA is one of the two major sports in Brazil. Ive spent time in Florianopolis and Rio, two cities that cannot be more different from each other economically and in racial makeup but in both cities, its either soccer or mma as with the rest of the country…..which shouldnt be a surprise as the Brazilians were putting on Val Tudo and Luta Livre competitions long before Americans were.

Good Numbers! The UFC always kills it in Brazil with Belfort.

TOPS E, i think the simple answers are money, ratings, ppv buys, ticket sales…..GSP, CM Punk, Kimbo Slice, Royce Gracie, Dada 5000, Lesnar, etc are all good for casual interest and as long as those shows sell both Bellator and the UFC will put fights together that sell, especially in the age of a true mma superstar like it had with Rousey, mcgregor when he actually fights, etc etc. Like everyone on this website acknowledges, UFC has to pay the bills.
