Maynard named as Silva’s replacement as matchmaker

September 24, 2016 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

In case you missed it, the UFC announced Joe Silva’s replacement as a matchmaker as it named Mick Maynard as Vice President of Talent Relations.

In addition, Sean Shelby was promoted to Senior Vice President of Talent Relations.  According to the UFC press release, the two will be organizing UFC bouts, developing athletes on the roster and scouting potential UFC talent.

Maynard is the former president of Legacy Fighting Champions, a Texas-based MMA organization.  The organization recently merged with Resurrection Fighting Alliance to create Legacy Fighting Alliance.

Payout Perspective:

I suspect not much will change when Maynard takes over.  Notably, Al Iaquinta had some unflattering things to say about Silva when the New York-based fighter attempted to renegotiate his UFC 205 bout agreement with Thiago Alves.  Iaquinta has since turned down the fight and has been replaced.  It’s not known whether Maynard would apply the same hardball tactics.
